Independence Day

When I think about Independence Day, what first comes to mind is the sacrifices our troops have made in the past, and continue to make, so we are safe and have freedom to live in peace as the United State of America. We have freedom of religion, speech, the right to bear arms, the right to protest, the right to stand trial with a jury, freedom of commerce, and freedom to elect our government officials, just to name a few.

We are a country of underdogs who can make something out of nothing and become successful through hard work, sweat and tears. Think about our odds of becoming independent from Britain as a group of colonies. Britain was mighty and had every resource to fight against us to keep us part of their empire. Somehow we found a way to come together to fight and beat them to be free and autonomous, one Nation under God.

They key phrase is we came together. Now 239 years later, we still need to come together. We need to unite to make this country even better. Americans are strong. We know what this country needs. It takes hard work and that is what we, Americans, are good at doing.

We take pride in doing things the right way, and we don't quit until the job is done and done well. We innovate. We are pioneers. We are not afraid to try something new. We create and we continue to make improvements.  We have a love of life and laughter. We know how to dream and we go after it with all we have. We dream big because that is the only way to dream.

But most of all we have the right to pursue happiness and we do. I think our founding fathers would be very proud of where we are and where we are going!! We are the UNITED States of America and I want to wish us a very Happy Independence Day.
